Monday

Introduction:

Description of how the US government prevents counterfeiting with special ink, marks, etc., on the money. Q: How do we know when money is fake? A: It doesn’t meet the government standard. Q: What is the Christian standard for truth about God? A: The Bible. It alone tells us about the one and true God. So, let’s go to the Bible to discover truths about God.

Lesson:

Work through passages that describe certain truths about God. Be sure at the end of each verse to draw a principle about God. For example in Genesis 1:1, the principle is, “God created everything.” Genesis 1:1; Exodus 3:14; Numbers 23:19; Isaiah 45:5-6; John 4:24.

Application:

Work through the AIG pictures of false religions (I used most, but not all of them) and have the children describe which Biblical principles these false religions violate. For example, Darwinism violates Genesis 1:1, that God created everything.

Tuesday

Introduction:

Demonstration of how to pull fingerprints (one oily thumbprint, graphite, brush, tape, blank index card … easier than you might think!). Explanation of the uniqueness of the human fingerprint working toward the idea that just as our fingerprints are one of a kind, so is God.

Lesson:

Exodus 5:1-2 Pharaoh asks, “Who is the LORD that I should obey.” Exodus 5-18 are an explanation of how God will make everyone know just how unique He is (7:5, 7:17, 8:10, 8:22, 9:29, 10:2 just to name a few). And it concludes with Jethro’s statement in 18:11, “Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods …”

Further verses demonstrating just how unique God is: God alone forgives (Luke 5:21); God alone saves (Psalm 62:1); God alone is good (Mark 10:18)

Application (I would not have made it a discussion of the Trinity, but for the sake of unity for the evening, here was I how I presented it)

God is so unique that even his very nature is one-of-a-kind.

God is God: Isaiah 45:5-6 (yesterday’s memory verse)

Jesus is God: Hebrews 1:8

The Spirit is God: John 14:6

God is One: Deuteronomy 6:4

Use the Trinity visual aid while working through these verses.

Wednesday

Introduction:

Facts about human hair leading to the Biblical conclusion that “even the hairs of your head are numbered” (Matthew 10:30).

Lesson:

1) What does Matthew 10:30 teach us? That God knows everything all at once.

2) What does 2 Peter 3:18 teach us? That God is timeless

3) More lengthy discussion of Numbers 11 (provision of the quail) leading to the conclusion that God can do anything He wants (supplemental verses: Psalm 115:3; Psalm 135:6)

* Numbers 11 is particularly important because it forms the foundation for the lessons on Thursday and Friday.

Application:

Using AIG’s I Am visual, discuss other attributions of God, but making the most out of the principles that God knows everything all at once, that God is timeless, and that God can do anything He wants to do.

Thursday

Introduction:

Facts about snake charming … Hint: It’s not so charming.

Lesson:

1) Review the material yesterday from Numbers 11.

2) Just ten chapters later, in Numbers 21, God’s people complain again. Instead of quail, God sends venomous snakes to judge their sin. But God also provides salvation when the people repent.

3) Discussion of the bronze serpent

Application:

Jesus compares what He would do for us to Numbers 21. Just as God used the bronze serpent to save the Israelites from their sin, God lifts up Jesus on the cross to save from our sin. Jesus makes this comparison in John 3:14-16. Strong gospel appeal.

Friday (Note: Our Friday lesson is curtailed due to special activities we have later in the evening. If I had more time, I would have done more with this lesson)

Introduction:

Valentine’s Day facts: money spent, candy hearts consumed, cards written, etc.

Lesson:

1) Review yesterday’s material: the Israelites never stopped complaining, rebelling, and disobeying.

2) God did not let these people into the Promised Land because of their rebellion. Their children, however, were allowed to go in. But before they entered, God wanted to teach them a lesson.

3) That lesson gives the greatest Biblical concentration of commands to love the Lord: Deuteronomy 6:5; 11:1; 11:13; 13:3; and 30:6.

Application:

Jesus, too, demands that we love the Lord with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength – Mark 12:30 (today’s memory verse).

Learn the song “Love the Lord.”
